Today Pastor Elliott shares the abundant thanks related to him by the church congregation, and reminds us all of the special gifts of our country’s history. Then, through Psalm 100, he reminds us that our very existence is cause for thanks. God made us. He made us to be His people. His love and patience, His provision - are everything and everywhere around us. Let us open the eyes of our hearts that we may see - and give thanks to our Father God. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100:5) We can lose much in this life, but our relationship with Jesus cannot be taken away.

Bill Klear reminds us of the grace, wonder and beauty of Jesus, who the writer of Hebrews describes as the pioneer and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2, NIV). The wonderful history of faith outlined in Hebrews 11 unveils a great cloud of faithful men and women of the Old Testament (flawed though they were), who revealed deep faith in God, and persevered in that faith, even until death.
How about us? How hard do we want to run? Will we persevere? Jesus wants to transform our lives so we choose to throw off everything that hinders our relationship with Him, and all the sin that binds us down and keeps us from staying close to Him.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. Drop our “stuff”, our own way of living. All of that is sin. Hate it. Run away from it, to Jesus. And let us persevere. He wants to end our spiritual weariness and lift our hearts (Hebrews 12:3) - now and forever.
